It was not so much I’m a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here as “I‘m a homeowner — and get THAT out of here.”
“THAT” was what the owners called the back garden in their period-style Inglewood home, a home they have owned for 10 years and had previously extended.
“It was pretty much an overgrown forest,” one owner said. “There were some fruit trees but there was way too much shade and density.”
He called on Austin Pearce, of Austin Developments, and Cullen Long, of Principal Landscaping, to turn the place into a welcoming area and not something to be avoided. Principal Landscaping did the overall design and Austin Developments the cabana at the head of the pool.
Out went the “jungle”. In came a pool, grassed with soft buffalo, a water blade at the side of the pool, a new barbecue, a bar fridge in the cabana (with sinks and cupboards to follow). The ceiling, with its recessed lights, has a sloped cedar ceiling and a dining setting. The eye-catching water blade is set in Eco Outdoor’s Baw Baw drystone.
At the other end of the pool, there are two sun lounges protected by a big shade sail.
Between the owners and Mr Long’s team there were discussions about what was required. “I liked the way they did it,” the owner said. “Cullen listened, but was not afraid to disagree with us and the result is very, very good. We are very happy.”
