Small Design Makes Big Impression

Although small in size, this compact pool has made a big impact on this Cottesloe outdoor area and was a silver winner in the SPASA awards 2014.

The 6.2m by 2.8m Monaco fibreglass pool has enlivened the small garden zone, creating not only a functional swimming space but an attractive feature viewed from the adjoining alfresco area.

“Our Monaco fibreglass swimming pool was chosen for its narrow width yet great depth of 1.75m and unobstructed swimming area for the clients’ children,” Barrier Reef Pools director Brad Hilbert said.

He said access was a big challenge for the job. With an opening only 800mm wide to the backyard, the pool had to be dug by hand and excess sand removed by wheel barrows. “We also had to chemically inject the boundary wall as the pool was installed only one metre from the boundary,” Mr Hilbert said. “Having the pool area so close to the alfresco means the owners can enjoy their pool all year round; it doesn’t matter if it is winter as sitting and relaxing by the pool can be just as enjoyable as swimming in it.”

The interior has been finished in a black Midnight Shimmer, with black and grey band tiles used along the water line to blend with the dark pool colour. Two colour-changing Spa Electrics LED lights are operated by remote control. They can be turned on from anywhere in the home and easily switch between colours to suit any occasion. Grey large format tiles surround the waterway, the earthy tones of the stone tying in with the decked alfresco and enhancing the modern design of the home. Pebbles line the base of the boundary fence as laser cut steel artworks, sourced from a gallery in the hills, have been hung along the fence. Uplit foliage adds simple greenery in a shallow garden bed at the head of the pool as frameless glass fencing creates a seamless flow between the pool and entertaining space.

The cost of the Silver award winning pool was $38,000
